Spurrier touts graduations, grades

August 15, 2011

Steve Spurrier made an impromptu visit with the media Monday night after South Carolina’s practice to brag on his program.

The Gamecocks had a combined 2.72 GPA last semester, the highest in school history, Spurrier said. The team graduated 27 players last year, not the 25 Spurrier had originally thought.

South Carolina had 30 football players with a GPA of 3.0 or better last semester, which was the best in the SEC, Spurrier said. And the Gamecocks football team topped all the South Carolina sports in community service hours.

“Our football program is healthier than it has ever been here, according to the facts. I like to get the facts out,” Spurrier said. “That’s the kind of football program our guys are doing here. I’m proud of our coaches, our support staff, our academic advisors and our players.”
