The first glimpse of South Carolina’s depth chart Tuesday morning provided few surprises.

It also may give little actual insight into how the lineup will look Saturday when the No. 12 Gamecocks play East Carolina in Charlotte.

Devin Taylor and Melvin Ingram are listed as the starting defensive ends with freshman Jadeveon Clowney listed as the top backup behind Ingram. However, defensive line coach Brad Lawing said Monday night that he still is tinkering with the lineup and could start a number of different combinations against the Pirates.

Quin Smith, who recently returned from a two-week absence due to a concussion, and Reggie Bowens are listed as the co-starters at weakside linebacker. Damario Jeffery, who is a weakside linebacker but will play spur this week in place of the suspended DeVonte Holloman, said Monday that Bowens looked “great” after being moved from middle linebacker to weakside linebacker.

Junior Kenny Miles and freshman Shon Carson are listed as co-Nos. 2 running backs behind Marcus Lattimore, but head coach Steve Spurrier reiterated Tuesday afternoon that Miles is considered the top backup.
