Place kicker Nick St. Germain of Powder Springs, Ga., committed to South Carolina on Wednesday afternoon following an in-home visit with Gamecocks special teams coach John Butler.
It was during that meeting St. Germain (5-11, 170) landed his offer from the Gamecocks, and he quickly accepted.
"It's exciting," St. Germain said shortly after committing. "I'm ready to get to work and get ready for the next level. This is step one."
Last season St. Germain was 11-for-17 on field goals with a long of 49 yards. His career-best is 54 yards. Over the past two seasons he connected on 20 field goals and totaled 121 touchbacks on kickoffs.
USC loses senior kicker Jay Wooten, so St. Germain knows he has a chance to step in right away.
"I've got a job I've got to do, and I'm going to try to do the best I can," he said. "I'm going to give it the best I can with no regrets."
St. Germain, who was recruited to USC by G.A. Mangus, is the 21st commitment for the Gamecocks' 2012 class. He is the ninth pledge from the state of Georgia.
St. Germain is the teammate of McEachern High defensive end and USC commitment Darius English. They're from the same school that produced current tight end Rory Anderson.
