Football team to be honored Saturday during hoops game

The 11-2 South Carolina football team will be recognized at halftime of the South Carolina-Florida men’s basketball game on Saturday.

The game will tip at 7 p.m. at the Colonial Life Arena in Columbia.

Head football coach Steve Spurrier and players are expected to be on hand, with Spurrier scheduled to address the crowd. Fans attending the contest will receive a souvenir card commemorating the Gamecocks’ first 11-win season.

The Gamecocks were 11-2 this season and finished ranked in the Top-10 for the first time in school history. They won a school-record six SEC games, including their first sweep of the Eastern Division.

The senior class posted the most wins (34) in school history, including 20 wins over the past two seasons. The season culminated with a 30-13 win over Nebraska in the Capital One Bowl.
