South Carolina athletes posted their highest cumulative GPA in history in the fall of 2011, the school announced Monday.

The Gamecocks’ average GPA was 3.202, marking the 10th straight semester the combined GPA has topped 3.0, and 360 athletes had a GPA of better than 3.0 in the fall of 2011.

“We are very proud of the way our student-athletes have represented the academic mission of the university,” Raymond Harrison, the school’s associate athletics director for academic services, said. “They have embraced the understanding that the discipline, focus and work ethic needed for academic success translates directly to the success they experience in athletics and in life.”

The equestrian (3.545), women’s swimming and diving (3.618) and men’s track (3.252) posted their highest GPAs on record. The football team posted a 2.704 GPA, the lowest of the school’s 17 sports. The men’s basketball team GPA was 2.932, its second highest mark ever.
