Linebacker Gerald Turner (6-2 245) of Goose Creek committed to USC Saturday while at the Gamecocks' junior day.

Turner had made several other visits to USC and had a feeling he would commit on this trip.

"I really liked the University of South Carolina and once I started bonding with coach (Brad) Lawing, and he showed me the plan he had for me, that made me really want to go there," Turner said. "He has the plan to play me with my hand down and standing up, like he did with Eric (Norwood)."

Turner said he also likes the way Lorenzo Ward runs the defense overall.

"The way they play defense is different than everybody else, and I like that," he said.

Turner also had offers from Clemson and North Carolina, and he drew interest from Georgia Tech.

Last season he had 57 tackles and 9 sacks.

He is the third commitment for USC's 2013 class.
