22 YEARS AGO TODAY: April 12, 1990

The Gamecocks pounded arch-rival Clemson 21-2 in front of 4,298 folks at Sarge Frye Field. In amassing this football-esque score, Carolina scored in every inning except the fourth. Most of the damage came in the third and fifth innings, when USC scored 14 runs on 10 hits. The Tigers also helped the cause in those two innings by committing three errors as well.

D.T. Cromer ignited the third-inning rally with a lead-off single. Before the inning was over, Carolina had built a comfortable 10-2 lead.

Starting pitcher Brian Williams was very good on this day as well. Williams went six innings, allowed only two runs on three hits and struck out nine.

Two-sporter Skeets Thomas (football, wide receiver) was the offensive star for the Gamecocks with a homer and four RBIs.
