The White team, led by RB Derek Watson edged out QB Phil Petty’s Black team 21-16 in a very entertaining Spring Game. The teams were chosen by a draft before the game, with QB Petty being picked first.

Petty made a number of big plays in a losing effort, throwing for 263 yards. He was forced into several mistakes also, mainly resulting from the constant pressure exerted by NG Cleveland Pinkney. Pinkney had a huge game, collecting two sacks and causing two fumbles.

QB Mikal Goodman led the White team for the go-ahead TD with 3:29 left. Goodman ran the option for 11 yards down to the 8, where Derek Watson punched in the winning TD two plays later.

Even with the team marred in a 21-game losing streak, there is optimism following the game with some impressive performances by young stars such as Petty and Watson. The optimism was proven to be founded, as the team went on to post an impressive 8-4 record.
