37 YEARS AGO TODAY: April 16, 1975

The Carolina baseball squad won its record-setting 17th-straight game. What made it even sweeter was that the record win came against arch-rival Clemson. Led by USC all-time greats Earl Bass and Hank Small, Carolina beat the Tigers

6-2 in front of a huge crowd, estimated at 7,000, in Columbia.

Pitcher Earl Bass ran his record to an impressive 9-0 with the victory. He tossed a three-hitter, allowing only two runs, while striking out eleven Tigers. Bass finished with an amazing 17-1 record in 1975.

1B Hank Small cracked his 11th HR of the season vs. Clemson. It was one of many hit by Small, who ranks second all-time at USC with 48 career round-trippers.
