Neil White’s weekly SEC-ACC team rankings

Published: October 17, 2012

No. 3 - WILLIAMS-BRICE STADIUM, USC: Playing "2001" as the Gamecocks run onto the field and the playing of "Sandstorm" during the game register high on the noise decibel meter. Just ask the Georgia Bulldogs' fans.

Neil White’s thoroughly unscientific weekly rankings:

1. ALABAMA (6-0)

When Tide rolls in, it’s going to get slippery on Rocky Top.

2. FLORIDA (6-0)

Gators are hoping to chomp down on a Gamecock nugget.

3. LSU (6-1)

The reward for a big win is a trip to College Station.

4. SOUTH CAROLINA (6-1)

USC will see if the Gators are toothless for a third straight season.

5. FLORIDA STATE (6-1)

Even the Seminoles couldn’t slip up against a bad BC team.

6. GEORGIA (5-1)

Dawgs get second straight off-week with a visit to Kentucky.

7. CLEMSON (5-1)

Hokies are ready to learn if Tigers found a defense in off-week.

8. MISSISSIPPI STATE (6-0)

This team just keeps winning. It’s hard to argue with results.

9. TEXAS A&M (5-1)

A 59-57 win over Louisiana Tech signals basketball season’s start.

10. NORTH CAROLINA (5-2)

Hey, look, the Heels streak into Durham with four straight wins.

11. OLE MISS (4-3)

Rebels take a week off after pounding on hapless Auburn.

12. VIRGINIA TECH (4-3)

By blitzing Duke, VT tunes up for stroll through Death Valley.

13. TENNESSEE (3-3)

Vols not likely to get their first SEC win this week.

14. N.C. STATE (4-2)

Wolfpack lopes to Maryland for a key Atlantic matchup.

15. DUKE (5-2)

Clock struck midnight for the Blue Devils, who now face UNC.

16. MARYLAND (4-2)

Can the Terps really be the only team without an ACC loss?

17. MIAMI (4-3)

A once-promising season is being pushed out to sea.

18. ARKANSAS (3-4)

Razorbacks are turning things around as they head into a bye week.

19. VANDERBILT (2-4)

College football will never overtake country music in Nashville.

20. MISSOURI (3-4)

Tigers should have gone to the Sun Belt instead of the SEC.

21. GEORGIA TECH (2-4)

With home game against BC, Jackets may snap three-game skid.

22. WAKE FOREST (3-3)

How many people really care about this week’s Virginia game?

23. AUBURN (1-5)

If Tigers can’t beat Vandy, Cam Newton will turn in letterman’s jacket.

24. VIRGINIA (2-5)

Cavs are now up to five straight losses. Do I hear six?

25. KENTUCKY (1-6)

Things will only get worse for Joker when Georgia lifts its leg.

26. BOSTON COLLEGE (1-5)

Maybe the Eagles can play Kentucky in a bowl game.
