Around the SEC: The price to fire Dooley; what's next in the Russell story?

Published: October 24, 2012

Are you wondering how much it would cost Tennessee if it does fire Derek Dooley after this season? The answer is A LOT. His assistant coaches, including former South Carolina coach Jay Graham, would get some cash, too. I asked somebody this spring why Graham would take that job knowing how unstable it was and they told me they think he got some assurances he’d have a good chance of sticking around under a new staff.

Mississippi State quarterback Tyler Russell is a good story. Could have gone somewhere other than Starkville, has them at 7-0, etc., etc. But I wonder if the glass slipper is going to crack this weekend, or maybe get torn off and stomped on? Alabama is up next.

Will Muschamp made a key decision when he took the Florida job by retaining special teams coach D.J. Durkin.

It is hard to believe Auburn tight end Philip Lutzenkirchen’s 15-year career in the SEC is finished. Isn’t he one of those guys who seems like he has been around forever? Sad to see it end this way.
