Lattimore accolade to be recognized Saturday

Marcus Lattimore is expected to be at Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday for South Carolina’s game against Arkansas, and his name will be added to the inner façade of the stadium, coach Steve Spurrier said Tuesday.

“I think our fans need to know that Marcus will be here, and I’m sure he’ll get an ovation maybe like there’s never been one at Williams-Brice,” Spurrier said.

Lattimore will be recognized inside the stadium as the school’s all-time leader in touchdowns with 41. The ceremony unveiling Lattimore’s sign will come just before the noon kickoff or between the first and second quarters, Spurrier said.

Lattimore, a junior who is sixth in school history in rushing yards with 2,677, suffered a gruesome knee injury on Oct. 27 against Tennessee. He had damage to multiple ligaments in his right knee and his return to football is not guaranteed. Lattimore had surgery on Friday, but Spurrier would not say if it is the only surgery needed to repair the damage.

“From what they all said, the surgery was successful,” Spurrier said. “Now it’s rehab and rest and so forth. And however long it takes, I think they wait and see.”
