Women’s pregame: USC vs. Savannah State

November 14, 2012

WHEN: 7 p.m. Thursday

WHERE: Colonial Life Arena.

TV: Fox SportSouth

SERIES: South Carolina leads 4-0

COACHES: Dawn Staley (69-58 in five seasons at USC, 241-138 in 13 seasons); Cedric Baker (86-172 in 10 seasons at Savannah State, 391-370 in 22 seasons)

WHAT TO WATCH FOR: The Gamecocks (2-0) return home to begin a quick two-game homestand before heading to the Virgin Islands for three games over the Thanksgiving break. They host Clemson on Sunday. ...USC has topped the 70-point mark in each of their two wins this season. Whenever they can score 70+ points they have been hard to beat in the Dawn Staley era. ... South Carolina is +17.5 in rebounding margin in its two lopsided victories. ... A win Thursday would match the best start in Staley’s five seasons. USC won three in a row last year. ... The Gamecocks’ thin front line will be without Elem Ibiam for the second straight game. She is being held out for precautionary reasons. ... Savannah State (1-0) won its opener, 89-55, over Columbia College.
