— Brenton Williams' 17 points powered South Carolina to a 63-57 win over Manhattan in the second game of the Brooklyn Hoops Tournament Saturday afternoon at the Barclays Center.

Michael Carrera and Brian Richardson chipped in 13 and 12, respectively, for the Gamecocks.

With its third win in a row, South Carolina improved to 8-3. The win is also South Carolina's sixth in eight all-time meetings with Manhattan. Manhattan has lost four of its last five games and is 3-7 this season.

Shane Richards, Donovan Kates and Rhamel Brown finished in double-figure scoring for the Jaspers with 18, 13 and 10 points, respectively. Richards hit 6 of 11 from 3-point range.

South Carolina outrebounded Manhattan 42-23.

The Gamecocks benefitted from the Jaspers' game-long displeasure with the officiating. South Carolina led 36-30 at the half due to a 9-1 run in the final 2:16 of the first half that was sparked by an intentional foul call on Manhattan forward Ryan McCoy. McCoy had been tangled up with Carrera as the two battled for position. Carrera made 1 of 2 free throws to begin the 9-1 run.

Manhattan fought back in the second half and actually led, 41-39, when a technical foul was issued against the bench with 12:36 remaining, following consecutive foul calls on Michael Alvarado and RaShawn Stores. From that point, South Carolina outscored Manhattan 24-16.

It was the Gamecocks’ second game in New York in less than a month. USC on Nov. 29 lost to St. John's 89-65.

On Saturday, USC played without senior guard LaShay Page, who missed the game because of an academic issue.

The Gamecocks will be off for a week before playing host to Presbyterian at 1 p.m. on Dec. 29.
