WR Berry given shot to join Gamecocks

Published: January 17, 2013

USC may not be able to spend a scholarship on a receiver in the 2013 class but that hasn't stopped the Gamecocks from trying to add one to the program.

Earlier this week, North-South All Star WR Jordan Berry of Dutch Fork got word from his coach that USC has offered him a preferred walk-on spot for 2013. Berry said Gamecock receivers coach Steve Spurrier Jr. made the call to his coach Tom Knotts.

"I like the idea," Berry said. "I've got to get my SAT up so I can get qualified."

Berry picked up his first offer recently from North Greenville. He will take an official visit to Wingate this weekend and possibly North Greenville the following weekend.

Berry led the state in receiving last season with 129 catches for 2002 yards and 13 touchdowns.
