INDIANAPOLIS — As I sit here in Lucas Oil Stadium and wait for the Marcus Lattimore Show to roll through the NFL Combine, it seems like a good time to review some of T.J. Johnsons comments from Thursday.
For Gamecock fans, the most interesting thing Johnson said didnt have anything to do with the NFL. When I asked Johnson who he thought would replace him as South Carolinas center, I expected one of two answers.
I thought hed either throw out the A.J. Cann option (moving Cann from center to guard) or be vague. He did neither.
Cody Waldrop, Johnson said immediately. I believe he will. Im excited to see what Cody can do. I think Cody can be special.
The 6-foot-2, 300-pound Waldrop signed with the Gamecocks in 2012 out of Armwood High School in Seffner, Fla., and redshirted last season. A consensus three-star prospect, he was considered anywhere from the No. 16 to No. 37 guard in the nation by recruiting analysts. He also had scholarship offers from Tennessee and Florida State.
I am excited to see what (the offensive line) can do, Johnson said. I visited the school before I came up here and I seen those boys working out. Those guys are starting to shape up. They are starting to look good. I think Cody is going to do hopefully a better job than me so I hope they are pretty good.
Stay tuned the rest of the day as well have plenty of Marcus Lattimore later today and also ask Ace Sanders about his decision to turn pro early.
