FLORENCE, SC — A relaxed and rested Steve Spurrier had fun with the fans during the Fan Fest activities on Thursday.
Addressing the crowd during the first stop of the tour in Florence, Spurrier got in his usual jabs aimed at Clemson. Prior to that, he leveled another quip at Georgia, whose schedule he has often lamented. Georgia opens with Clemson and USC and will face LSU after being able to avoid them for several years due to the SECs rotation.
I dont think ours is all that much easier. The good part is, Georgias is harder, he said with a laugh. Theirs is tougher. Its a lot tougher.
He remains pleased with how the spring progressed and hoped the players carried that momentum into the summer.
The summer will be more important, he said. Hopefully our guys know what it takes to prepare for a season. I think we have pretty good leaders. They know how to train and prepare. I dont think we have too many goof-off guys like we had years back.
Of the players being asked to fill voids, Spurrier singled out redshirt freshman Cody Waldrop, who will replace long-time center TJ Johnson, who started a school-record 53 games.
We think Codys going to be a real good one, Spurrier said. He may have a chance to break TJs starting record.
