DL Dexter Wideman of Saluda is carrying a double load this spring. On the one hand, he's working hard to sharpen his football skills. On the other hand, he's working hard in the class room to be in a position to accept a scholarship offer later this year.
"It's on his plate now and nobody can do the work for him," Saluda coach Doug Painter said.
Wideman picked up an offer from Alabama this week. He also has offers from Clemson, USC, Michigan, Florida, Ole Miss and Florida State. Ohio State and Tennessee have been by the school and have expressed interest. USC and Clemson were by earlier in the spring and plan to return for a practice next week.
Wideman has not taken any visits since going to USC and Clemson on back to back weekends last month. He will take more visits this summer with Florida State, Florida, LSU and Alabama possible stops.
Wideman won't make a decision until after the season.
