While many of the top players in the country like him are rushing to make a summertime decision, Saluda defensive lineman Dexter Wideman will not make his until after this football season, his coach says.

"He's not going through a lot this summer as far as visiting because he's taking a summer school class," coach Doug Painter said. "He's working out and doing all the stuff he's supposed to do."

That included attending the Shrine Bowl combine at Irmo last Saturday.

Painter said he and Wideman talked Tuesday about his plans.

"He has felt a lot of pressure," the coach said. "He said, 'I would like to not worry about this until after our season is over.' That's kind of where he's at. I told him if he performs like he's supposed to, the offers will still be there. He's trying to step back from that a little bit because he's kind of gotten overwhelmed."

Painter said Clemson and USC remain in touch with Wideman and appear willing to wait on him.

"They haven't said they've got to have a commitment," Painter said. "Nobody has told him that."

Wideman also has offers from Florida State, Florida, Michigan and Alabama.

"He likes Florida State," Painter said. "He mentioned them the other days when we talked, but I think it's very, very wide open."
