Gaffney's Shaq Davidson

Gaffney quarterback Shaq Davidson has added one more game to his final high school season.

The recent South Carolina commitment will participate in the 2014 U.S. Army All-American Bowl at 1 p.m. on Jan. 4 at the Alamodome in San Antonio. NBC will televise the game.

Davidson is the first player from Gaffney to earn the honor. He joins Stratford quarterback Jacob Park, a Georgia commitment, as the lone instate players selected so far. Davidson was chosen as an athlete for the all-star game. USC recruited him to play wide receiver.

Davidson (6-foot, 170 pounds) led the Indians to the 4A Division I state championship last season with a 34-22 victory against Dutch Fork. He finished the season with 64 completions for 869 yards and nine touchdowns and added 100 carries for 609 yards and seven touchdowns.

His sophomore campaign was cut short by a torn ACL midway through the season.

Davidson said the chance to play in one of the nation’s top all-star games will be exciting.

“I think it’s an honor to be selected to play in a game like this,” Davidson said. “I love to compete against the best, and I will be looking forward to it. It’s going to be a really great experience, and I’m happy to be representing Gaffney.”

Davidson joins four other former area standouts — Willy Korn (Byrnes), Marcus Lattimore (Byrnes), Brandon Willis (Byrnes) and Charone Peake (Dorman) — who have been selected to the game.
