Jadeveon Clowney

It hit me Sunday sitting in Steve Spurrier’s news conference – we finally get to see Jadeveon Clowney play football.

Clowney, South Carolina’s All-America defensive end, is second only to Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel in amount of newspaper stories and television profiles generated since the end of the 2012 season. And we finally get to see them play now.

For South Carolina fans, that means not fretting about Clowney wrecking his own team’s offensive line during scrimmages, which he did, but hoping he’ll do the same to opponents. For Spurrier, it means letting somebody else worry about how to block him.

“That is also going to be interesting, to see how every team handles Jadeveon over there,” Spurrier said. “We have to be smart enough. If they’ve got two or three guys waiting, we have to put him on the other side or up the middle or somewhere. Hopefully, we’ll have a plan to move him around. Got to.”

Clowney, a junior, has declared his intentions to turn pro after this season, so you’re only guaranteed 12 more chances to see him in garnet and black. Enjoy them.
