THUMBS UP

Elliott Fry

The walk-on freshman kicker made the two first field-goals of his career — a 39-yarder in the first quarter and a 26-yarder in the second quarter.

Kane Whitehurst

The transfer wide receiver from Arkansas — and cousin of former Clemson quarterback Charlie Whitehurst — hauled in a 29-yard touchdown pass from Dylan Thompson in the first quarter.

Mike Davis

The sophomore tailback cracked the 100-yard mark in the first start of his career, a night that included a 75-yard touchdown run on USC’s initial possession of the second half.

New starters on defense

Safety T.J. Gurley, spur Sharrod Golightly, and linebackers Marcquis Roberts and Skai Moore led the tackle brigade while stepping into the lineup and shutting down a high-powered UNC offense.

Postgame traffic

After the weather delay began, most of the fans left with 8:20 to play, which left roads wide open for media types to drive home once the game was completed.

THUMBS DOWN

Defensive letdowns

On UNC’s 70-yard touchdown drive in the second quarter, the Tar Heels converted one third-down play due to a facemask penalty as well as third-down and fourth-down conversions on pass plays deep in USC territory.

Weather delay

After a 6 p.m. kickoff, the Gamecocks were cruising to victory when the game was stopped due to a lightning show around the stadium.
