First, fourth quarter offense
The Gamecocks had two first-quarter series that went three and out and managed 36 yards of offense outside of a long Davis run. One drive featured two dropped passes, including Shaq Rolands only target of the game after serving a three-game suspension. In the fourth quarter, USC had three drives that results in 12 total yards.
South Carolina didnt get the same good fortune against Tennessee that it did last weekend against Arkansas. On Connor Shaws first-quarter fumble, USCs Davis emerged from the player pileup with the ball, but referees ruled it a recovery by Tennessee. Late in the second quarter and deep in its Tennessee territory, Clowney hit Vols tailback Rajion Neal. What initially appeared to be a fumble recovered by the Gamecocks was ruled an incomplete pass.
A pair of second half penalties (Sidney Rhodes block, T.J. Gurley holding) cost the team field position on returns. Elliott Frys 45-yard field goal attempt in the third quarter was well short, the true freshmans first miss of the season.
Tennessee receiver Marquez North, a true freshman from Charlotte, N.C., had receptions of 48 and 39 yards in both of the Volunteers fourth-quarter drives that ended in field goals.
At 95,736 in attendance, it was the second straight week the Gamecocks opponent fell way short of a sellout. Neyland Stadium holds 102,455.
