J.P. Vonashek

BY MELISSA HARMON

True freshman offensive lineman J.P. Vonashek has left the South Carolina football team.

South Carolina on Friday morning confirmed Vonashek's departure.

Vonashek (6-foot-6, 283 pounds) of Saint Marys, Ga., was not listed on the Gamecocks' latest two-deep roster after being Brandon Shell's backup earlier in the season at right tackle.

Vonashek - the J.P. stands for James Patrick - was a three-star prospect, according to 247Sports' Composite rankings, which factor in all networks. He signed with the Gamecocks over offers from Auburn, Tennessee, Ohio State, Florida State and Georgia.

He played a limited role late in Camden County High's season as he recovered from torn shoulder ligaments.

Vonashek was one of five offensive linemen in South Carolina's 2013 class.
