Fresh off an unexpected appearance and comeback-leading effort against Missouri, senior quarterback Connor Shaw is back on South Carolinas injury list.
Shaw, who battled sickness against the Tigers, still has a virus, head coach Steve Spurrier said. Shaw was tested for mono but those tests came back negative, Spurrier told The State.
I dont know what the trainers are calling it, but hes sick, Spurrier said. They tested him for all kinds of things. You would hope hed be ready by Saturday.
The No. 14 Gamecocks (6-2 overall, 4-2 SEC) play Mississippi State (4-3, 1-2) on Saturday at 12:21 p.m. in Williams-Brice Stadium. Shaw did not practice Monday or Tuesday.
If hes unable to go, Dylan (Thompson) will be ready, Spurrier said. Dylan had a good practice (Monday night) and should be ready to go.
Shaw was 20-of-29 for 201 yards and three touchdowns against Missouri. He is 112-of-174 for 1,508 yards, 14 touchdowns and one interception this season.
His teammates expect to see him on the field this week.
Thats Superman right there, linebacker T.J. Holloman said. I dont think anything can hold him back at this point. He wasnt even supposed to be out there (against Missouri) but just the fighter and the dog in him wouldnt allow him to sit on the sideline.
