Dante Sawyer enrolls in JuCo, delaying USC

jkendall@thestate.comFebruary 20, 2014

Defensive end Dante Sawyer, one of the marquee names in South Carolina’s 2014 signing class, enrolled in junior college this week and will not play for the Gamecocks next season, a source told The State.

Sawyer, a four-star prospect from North Gwinnett High School in Suwanee, Ga., would have had the chance to play early for a team that must replace both starting defensive ends.

Sawyer, 6-foot-2, 235 pounds, will be eligible to return to the Football Bowl Subdivision in May of 2015. Sawyer can sign with any school upon leaving junior college but seemingly still plans to come to South Carolina. On Thursday, he tweeted, “1yr away...just like redshirting not a big difference.”
