The South Carolina baseball team is back on top.

Baseball America elevated the Gamecocks two places Monday into the No. 1 spot in its weekly Top 25. The ranking comes on the heels of 15 consecutive wins to start the season, a run that has propelled USC from No. 7 to No. 5 to No. 3 to the top spot over the first four weeks.

The Gamecocks posted five wins last week, two over Stetson and three over Brown. They blanked the Bears all three games, which upped the number of shutouts this season to eight.

Having outscored its six opponents by a total of 114-20, South Carolina has posted a .320 batting average and 1.20 ERA in the program’s best start since the 2004 team began that season with 18 consecutive wins.

South Carolina’s last No. 1 ranking by Baseball America came at the conclusion of its 2011 national championship season.

Perfect Game ranked USC as No. 3 behind Virginia (11-3) and No. 2 Florida State (12-2), citing current strength of schedule as a factor. FSU’s is 15th, Virginia’s at 42nd and USC’s at 74th.

The Gamecocks remained at No. 1 in the Collegiate Baseball for the second straight week.

South Carolina hosts Furman at 7 p.m. Tuesday before opening SEC play on Friday at Carolina Stadium against Ole Miss.
