USC getting one of last shots at Cunningham

April 11, 2014

6-6 Josh Cunningham of Chicago plans to make his college decision one week from today and will announce the choice at his high school, Morgan Park. Between now and then, he will take an official visit to USC and an unofficial visit to DePaul.

That USC official visit will be this weekend. Cunningham's coach said Friday afternoon his player and his mother would be flying down to Columbia either Friday night or Saturday morning.

"South Carolina has been on his list for a long time," coach Nick Irvin said. "He's anxious to get down there and see what South Carolina is all about. He wants to see the campus."

USC coach Frank Martin has made a strong push for the athletic Cunningham and was last up to see him when he played in the state championship game which his team won. "He has a great relationship with coach Martin," Irvin said. "He really likes coach Martin, gets along with him fine. He likes the way he coaches and how he holds his players accountable."

Cunningham is down to USC, Indiana, Bradley, Creighton, DePaul and Minnesota with no leader right now according to his coach. "We'll see how it goes," Irvin said. "He likes all the schools."

This season Cunningham averaged 23 points and 15 rebounds per game.
