Clemson tweet takes a jab at Gamecocks

From Staff ReportsJuly 7, 2014

South Carolina linebacker Marcquis Roberts (21) celebrates with fans after the Gamecocks defeated Clemson at Williams-Brice Stadium on Nov. 30. It was USC's fifth straight win over Clemson.

South Carolina has beaten Clemson for five straight seasons, but that did not keep the folks who run the official Clemson football twitter account from taking a jab at the Gamecocks in a tweet over the weekend.

Under a graphic showing the score from the Orange Bowl: Clemson 40, Ohio State 35, the tweet read: "Six months ago, #Clemson became the only school in the state of South Carolina to win a BCS game."

South Carolina didn’t qualify for a BCS bowl, but the Gamecocks beat Wisconsin in the Capital One Bowl.

The folks of wrote of the tweet: "It was a nice attempt at a backhanded shot, but Clemson should worry more about beating South Carolina on the field than tweaking them off of it."

Clemson last beat USC in football in 2008, or more than five and a half years ago.
