Ranking the SEC non-conference football schedules

Strength of schedule will take on additional significance with the start of the four-team College Football Playoff this season. That could work for or against SEC contenders on the bubble. The SEC will have 11 of 56 non-conference games against Power 5 teams , more than the Big Ten and the ACC. Ranking the SEC teams’ non-conference schedules from hardest to easiest:

1. Georgia

Clemson, Troy, Charleston Southern, Georgia Tech

2. Tennessee

Utah State, Arkansas State, at Oklahoma, Chattanooga

3. Missouri

South Dakota State, at Toledo, UCF, Indiana

4. LSU

Wisconsin (at Houston), Sam Houston State, La.-Monroe, New Mexico State

5. Florida

Idaho, Eastern Michigan, Eastern Kentucky, at Florida State

6. South Carolina

ECU, Furman, South Alabama, at Clemson

7. Arkansas

Nicholls State, at Texas Tech, Northern Illinois, UAB

8. Auburn

San Jose State, at Kansas State, Louisiana Tech, Samford

9. Kentucky

Tennessee-Martin, Ohio, Louisiana-Monroe, Louisville

10. Ole Miss

Boise State (Atlanta), Louisiana-Lafayette, Memphis, Presbyterian

11. Alabama

West Virginia (Atlanta), FAU, Southern Miss, Western Carolina

12. Texas A&M

Lamar, Rice, at SMU, Louisiana-Monroe

13. Mississippi State

Southern Miss, UAB, at South Alabama, Tennessee-Martin

14. Vanderbilt
