USC signed Shrine Bowl DL Dexter Wideman of Saluda in February knowing he had a lot of work to do to qualify for eligibility this season.

By all accounts, Wideman did everything he could do to qualify but those efforts have come up short.

Saluda coach Stewart Young confirmed on Monday that Wideman did not qualify and will not enroll this fall.

Young said the hope is Wideman will be able to enroll at Fork Union Prep, Va., for this season and join the Gamecocks in January.

Wideman becomes the fourth 2014 recruit for USC not to qualify, joining DE Dante Sawyer, DE Jhaustin Thomas and TE Kalan Richie. The Gamecocks are still waiting on the qualifying status for DBs Wesley Green, Chris Lammons and Darin Smalls to be resolved.
