— It’s no secret this is a big year for Florida head coach Will Muschamp, and he’s not leaving himself much margin for error headed into it.

“I got a lot of confidence in this team and staff. This is probably the most complete team we've had since I've been at the University of Florida in all three phases,” Muschamp said Monday on the first day of SEC Media Days.

The Gators finished 4-8 (3-5 SEC) in Muschamp’s third season. He is 22-16 overall with the Gators.

“There will be a lot of chatter about hot seat business. That's part of it,” Muschamp said. “The way you combat that is having a winning football team and winning football games, which is what we're going to do.”

Muschamp’s enthusiasm in the face of Florida’s worst season since 1979 is contagious, sophomore cornerback Vernon Hargreaves.

“Of course it helps us because if he’s not confident how are we going to be confident? That’s what kind of person he is. He’s a competitor. We love to play for him,” Hargreaves said. “We have to have a better year.”

Muschamp fired offensive coordinator Brent Pease after last season and replaced him with former Duke offensive coordinator Kurt Roper, who will install a shotgun, spread offense more familiar to quarterback Jeff Driskel, who returns after missing most of last season due to a broken leg.

“There is a lot of buzz around the program,” Driskel said.
